A bizarre place for cloud-hunting in the coastal province, Khanh Hoa
Khanh Hoa was originally known for eye-catching beaches, yet recently an area in the province has emerged as a place to hunt clouds with a chilly climate. Along the pass Khanh Son – Khanh Hoa is ideal to watch the sea of clouds floating upon the valley. More notably, the perfect time for seeing clouds is not just once a day like Da Lat or the Northwest, but it often lasts from 7 a.m to 9 a.m.
I. About Khanh Son
100km from Nha Trang city to the southwest, Khanh Son mountainous district is an ideal destination for tourists who love the chilly air and natural scenery, a space completely different from the beaches. beautiful bays and islands of Khanh Hoa province.
With an altitude of about 800 m above sea level, Khanh Son has a cool and pleasant climate. The district is favored by nature for its wild beauty including primeval forests, winding passes, and waterfalls. While the road is quite flat and wide, surrounded by lush green trees, it is safe to stop and watch the clouds without being obstructed by the car going up or down the pass.
This is also the homeland of the Raglai ethnic group whose cultural features imbued with the Central Highlands, such as gongs, Khanh Son stone instruments, and Chapi instruments. Their livelihoods depend entirely on swidden production and animal husbandry. In addition, knitting, making crossbows, Chapi instrument,… are their traditional crafts.

II. Best time to visit Khanh Son
The most beautiful time to visit Khanh Son is in the middle of the year. This period is also fruit season in the district, with mangosteen, grapefruit, rambutan, and especially durian.
III. Khanh Son’s isolaled cloud hunting spot
Ba Cuong Nam Commune is the cloud watching site in Khanh Son. With an altitude of more than 600m above sea level, the clouds here are white and fluffy, drifting along the mountainside, hovering on the roofs of houses, and weaving into the orchards.
Around 5 a.m, the area is quite crowded with tourists following the concrete roads to Ba Cuong Nam Commune. Early in the morning, the clouds are in the distance, but then, each layer drifts slowly, getting closer to where everyone is standing, covering the cool air from the mist. When the sun comes out, the clouds also fade away, hovering in the middle of the green mountain space. The first ray of sunlight seems to have created a convergence force, pulling the clouds down into the valley.
Nearby Ba Cuong Nam Commune is Ta Gu Waterfall, which is about 40 meters high, lying upright on the cliff like ivory, pouring white water all year round. You are free to bathe in the jade-colored water and enjoy a meal by Koroa Stream. A meal usually features grilled meat, Lam rice, and Bep leaves (Paddy oats) – the vegetable picked in the mountains of the Raglai people. Besides catering services, there are many other picnic activities to join, like SUP boating and camping overnight.
IV. How to get to Khanh Son
From the center of Nha Trang city, visitors can go to Cam Ranh, then turn to Provincial Road 9 to Khanh Son. The section of Cam Ranh – Khanh Son is only about 40 km, in which up to 10 km is a pass. In general, the road is not too difficult, but visitors need to pay attention to drive safely during the journey.
The cloud hunting spot is about 20 km from Ta Gu Waterfall. Visitors should walk in the direction of the suspension bridge after the end of the road, although it is farther, it is safe.
